Muri Gains Five More Major Endorsements
Lakewood, WA – Pierce County Councilman and Congressional Candidate in the 10th District Dick Muri recently received endorsements from five major political figures in Washington State. Attorney General and Gubernatorial Candidate Rob McKenna chose to endorse Muri’s candidacy shortly after the Primary Election.
Joining him are Congressman Dave Reichert (WA-8), Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler (WA-3), Thurston Co. Auditor and Candidate for the Secretary of State Kim Wyman, and current Secretary of State Sam Reed. Shortly before receiving these endorsements, the Muri campaign announced the endorsements of Senator SladeGorton and the Mainstream Republicans of Washington.
Dick Muri is running in the new 10th Congressional District—an open seat—in a district that heavily favors Pierce County, where he beat Congressman Adam Smith in 2010. Muri has been a member of the Pierce County Council for nine years, serves as the Executive Pro Tem, and previously served on the Steilacoom School Board. He has been endorsed by key Republicans like retired Congressman Sid Morrison, Representatives JT Wilcox and Hans Zeiger, Thurston County Sheriff Gary Edwards and over 100 local elected officials and Republican Precinct Committee Officers. Dick and his wife Mary have been married for 33 years. They live in Steilacoom, WA and have four grown children and four grandchildren. The family attends St. John Bosco CatholicChurch.
My Thoughts on Obamacare
Now that the Supreme Court has ruled in favor of President Obama’s Affordable Care Act – specifically the individual mandate on purchasing health insurance – voters and politicians alike are speaking out on the ruling’s repercussions. I believe it is my duty to explain my position on the Act and today’s Supreme Court Opinion.
Along with the majority of Americans, I believe that the Affordable Care Act forces American families into government run healthcare programs and puts the federal government between patients and their healthcare providers. I believe that forcing citizens to engage in commerce is utterly unconstitutional.
My opponents have long supported government run healthcare. In fact, my Republican opponent went so far as to help draft a very similar bill during his tenure as a Democrat state representative.
I applaud Attorney General Rob McKenna’s efforts in this fight, but now that the Court has made its decision, it is time for a new Congress to repeal the Act. As a U.S. Representative, my goal will be to make this happen as quickly as possible.
For this, I need your help. With quarterly filing coming up in just a couple of days, it is critical that we raise enough to make us a crucial player going into the primaries. Our goal is set at gaining 100 new donors, so if you have yet to donate, please take the time to click here and give $25, $50, or $75. Thank you for your support!
Sincerely,
Dick Muri
A statement from Dick,
America needs a new era of bipartisanship and reform. We can no longer accept the divisive and hyper-partisan politics that dominate Washington D.C.
I volunteered to serve our country and joined the United States Air Force because I felt I had a personal responsibility to defend this great nation. I see my commitment to serve in the United States Congress in exactly the same light. America is facing a crisis born of over spending and reckless borrowing. Make no mistake, Congress has chosen to fail.
As a leader in local government I know that we could have made all the same mistakes they’ve made in the other Washington. Instead I chose to work to balance our budget and reach across party lines to get things done.
Best regards,
Dick Muri
