Dick Muri believes government works best at the local level.
Over the last few decades, the federal government has grown to dominate areas that the Constitution and commonsense left in the hands of state and local government; education and healthcare most notably.
The needs of Tacoma are different from the needs of Tampa. Overarching federal programs become nothing more than an ineffective burden on taxpayers because they fail to recognize these differences. More and more of our state and local budgets are controlled by mandates from congress.
Dick Muri, a former school board member, has seen the harm that invasive federal regulations have done to our schools and teachers. Education is a dynamic force, which can best be improved at the local level. We must do more to protect our education system by empowering individual districts, principals and teachers.
Dick Muri wants a restoration of federalism. Ending federal funding for education, healthcare and other programs would be disastrous, but we can reduce the mandates that accompany this money. Dick Muri will trust states, local governments and the people to make decisions for themselves.
